Okay so the Princess Pigbear bog has what she calls Mama Monday and it is a great way to get lots of ideas. She wants to know some kids music ideas. I will give you what are regulars in our household and feel free to contribute a little yourself (can't go wrong with a little more variety)
#1 Joe McDermott (we love him, not just because he gave us a tour of his studio last summer)
#2 Funkey Monkeys - just a fun, non-sense group that is lots of fun to listen to. The composer also composed the music to Dora the Explorer
#3 Lucas Miller - Thanks to my sister-in-law Jody we have all his CDs and some books too. I love his music. Another Austin Musician but before he was a musician he was a science teacher. All of his music has a wonderful educational side to it. Where else can you learn about bats, metamorphisis and a rap from a reed of grass all in one location? I love the idea of making science fun!
#4 Currently we have Passover songs on our playlist. Who doesn't want to listen to a cantor singing the 4 questions this time of year?
#5 The Beetles - Personally I feel obligated to brainwasher (er expose) by children to the greatest band of all time. Proudly they can sing many of the songs.
#6 My Best Friends Wedding CD - The boys favorite song of all time is "If You wanna Be Happy" by Jimmy Soul Go to this UTube link if you don't know the song. It was played frequently at my bachelorette party. You can't listen to it without cracking up. Alex just likes it because he swears the guy yelling is actually Elmo (If you listen it does sound like him)
#7 The Texas Aggie Band - The only thing guaranteed to get Daniel to stop screaming.
We also listen to all types of music 60s through the 90s; heavy metal, music from my travels throughout the world (spanish rap songs are not understood when the cuss and talk innappropriately), country, classic, an Irish music CD - very eclectic mix.
I love to listen to music, I love the beat, I love singing, I love dancing and I LOVE sharing it with my children. You can't be sad when you are dancing and singing!
So my advice - when the day is yucky and you just can't stand your kids anymore - turn the t.v. off and turn the music on!

Jody exposed us to Lucas Miller too and he is great. We used to love all the regular kids CD's that everyone listens too, then the kids went through a stage where they loved the Kids Bob CD's.
Now they enjoy all kinds of music and we listed regularly to the XM radio stations on our new mini van. We are all enjoying the 70's and 80's stations and the kids are finding that they like the "oldies but goodies."
We like all kinds of music around here, except not really rap. Harrison enjoys rock. jacob and Michela like the normal teeny-bopper stuff that's popular. Since the kids do musical theater, all of us like broadway show tunes.
Jacob of course likes anything you can dance too.
We love the music at our synagogue and also participate in services by being in the children's choir (Jacob and MIchela) and the youth band (Harrison.)
Harrison plays the trombone in the middle school symphonic (honor) band as well as the youth band. He also made the all district honor band and will be performing in a big evening concert next week and then at disneyland all day next wed.
Jacob is doing viola and Michela violin, but they plan to switch to band like Harrison when they are allowed to do that in 5th grade. jacob is going to do trumpet and Michela says sax or clarinet.
Music is great!
We are big Beatles fans, too! You are right: Greatest Band of all time! Ashton even knows the number of the track on the Anthology that has all the girls screaming. And he knows it is a good day when I "can handle" the loud end of Hey, Jude.
