Sorry to interrupt the many, MANY posts of our trip to Park City but I thought I would start a new aspect to my blog. Welcome to the weekly Arts Monday. Here we will show an arts and crafts project (or maybe just art depending on my book) for you to do with your children. As my kids are 6,5 and 1 they will probably all be appropriate for this age range. So, stay tuned for our weekly Arts Monday.
Today we will discuss all the fabulous things you can do with paper plates.
Paper Plate Animals:
Supplies:
Paper Plates (large and small- although you could just cut a larger plate into a smaller circle)
Crayons, markers and/or paints
Ruler
Glue
Pencil
Piper cleaners, straws, yarn, wiggly eyes, feathers, other supplies to decorate
Directions:
Piggy – Use one large plate, one small plate and construction paper scraps. Use the scraps to make the pigs feet, nose and ears. Cut a spiral, as shown to make the curly tail. Color all the pieces pink or grey. Glue it all together, as shown.
Bunny Rabbit - Use one large plate and two small plates. Cut one small plate in half. Color everything pink and white. Glue together as shown. Add pipe cleaner whiskers and a cotton ball tail.
Turtle – Use two plates. Cut the rim of one plate into five pieces. Draw color or cut them to look like feet and a tail. Color and cut out a head from the middle of the same plate. Add texture to the other plate to make it look like the turtle shell. Glue it all together as shown.
Butterfly- Glue two large plates and two small plates overlapping each other. Add a piper cleaner for the body and antennae. Then decorate with markers, paint and glitter.
Elephant - Use one large plate and three small plates. Cut the rim off one large plate. Cut it in half to use as the trunk. Glue together, as shown. Add eyes, feet and tusk if desired.
Fish – Use one large plate and two smaller plates. Cut a sliver of a moon from both the large place and one small plate. Cut a notch for the mouth (a small triangle) in the other small plate. Glue the pieces together, as shown.
Ladybug – Use two plates, another small circle and a pipe cleaner. Cut one plate in half. Bend the pipe cleaner in half and loop the ends. Glue it all together, as shown. Don’t forget to add the spots.
Owl – Use one paper plate with rippled, not smooth, edges. Cut out and glue together, as shown. Color or add a face and craft feathers, if desired.

Looks fun and very creative. I remember the kids doing that in preschool, but I don't think we ever did it at home, although we did do *some* art projects. You're much better about that than I was, I guess because you're an artist!

I am sorry I deleted your comments on my mom's blog. It's a long story and I hope my mom gets into it soon but it has to do with airing our demons on her blog - it is totally rediculous but there is a lot of shame associated with her "demon" and she chooses to believe that what she does is a secret so to have it on her blog, well, I was afraid it would cause her too much stress on her already weak heart. I have saved your comment in an e-mail and will show it to her when she is ready to share it with the blog world. Please forgive me - you did NOTHING wrong. You were being sweet and helpful and concernd - it's just that nasty word - PRIDE on my mom's part that I am trying to protect her from.
